Kindel Format Errors: This was digitalized from a very old book. One star deducted for conversion errors resulting in strings of garbled characters and occasional word errors.

If you loved the Tall Ships spanking along under an Acre of Sail, written when they were rolling, this is for you. If you recognize names like the Sea Witch, Flying Cloud, Rainbow, and Cutty Sark, there are a few paragraphs of getting one of these beauties underway that will electrify you as only a contemporary account can.
It was my privilege as a child to have known this generation of seafarers, in the Clippers and Liverpool Packets. Yes, I am no spring chicken, but some of these tough old Yankees lived a LONG time.
So I grew up with the stories and culture, all very real to me, and influenced my life
. (Trying to talk myself up a ladder for urgent repairs, I would say to myself, "Your forefathers are puking in shame. Would you rather scramble aloft in a gale, like they did? Six times around the Horn, you coward!")
I can hear them and their stories in this book, Downeast voices filled with the shriek of wind in the rigging and the crack of sail.
